Havre de Grace ~ The meeting place TM
The fall season also brings friends and family off the decks and porches and inside to living rooms, kitchens and local eateries. So the meeting places may change, but the gatherings and the stories will continue
Still want to go golfing? Here's a view of the 18th hole and the Clubhouse at Bulle Rock. Whether you're actually playing, out for a great walk with a view to- die-for, or enjoying their fine restaurant, a trip to Bulle Rock is a definite plus!
. The hikers and walkers generally love the fall, or one-sweater-weather as I call it. It's brisk air puts a quicker pace to our steps. And after a refreshing walk on the promenade or a hike on one of our local trails, heading to our favorite eatery is a perfect choice. Something warm and comfy following a day outdoors makes for a great change from our workday world.Gallery RoCa, RiverView Gallery, or the Broken Heart Cafe & Gallery are all great indoor actvities to enjoy after spending some time in the crisp fall weather. Peruse fine art, sip a cup of your favorite warm drink and relax. Be sure to add the Museums to your list of fun things to do. There are special programs as well as their regular visitor hours. They have wonderful workshops. And they're all gearing up for the coming holidays, Candlelight Tour, and Christmas Boutiques. Possibly you're thinking of curling up with a great book. Visit our bookstores: Courtyard Books or Washington St. Books. Or curl up in a comfy chair at our local Public Library. Take you favorite book and visit one of our area coffee shops or one of our cozy small restaurants that encourage you to stop in and relax. No matter your choice, we have a number of local authors to make that quiet time perfect. Look for Irna Jay's beautiful photography in her book, "Havre de Grace: A Portrait," or "Growing Up Cold" by Lucille Maurice Maistros, a wonderful story of growing up in the 50s. Then there's the great story of a new resident in the city, "Galloping Green" by Marita O'Connell. Marita shares her story of arriving in America from Ireland at the age of 18 with $10 in her pocket and a big world to experience. A recent book signing (First Friday in August) occurred at Washington Street Books for a number of authors including Harford County Executive David Craig (former HdG Mayor) and Mary Martin, owner of a postcard shop on Route 40 in Perryville and Bayside Antiques in Havre de Grace. Their newly published book, "Greetings from Havre de Grace" was a big hit!
Left photo: Mary Martin and David Craig sign their newly published book. Right photo: Diane Wylie watches Rose Marie Miller of Par Excellence enjoy her book. "My Enemy, My Love" is the title of Diane M. Wylie's just published first novel. Set during the Civil War, this historical romance is filled with action, adventure, and passion - "the deep passion that comes from love," says author Diane. What a wonderful event to have so many local authors in our midst! Like to browse the downtown shops? Havre de Grace, Maryland, is a community that offers fine dining, unique shopping, friendly people, waterfront access and fun. We have few neon lights directing you. Instead we offer you the canvas to create your own fun. Whether you play on or in the water, enjoy a relaxing day at an area spa, leisurely stroll the streets, enjoy a meal, some chocolates or a decadent dessert, picnic in a park, hike or bike, dance, re-create history at one of our museums or just enjoy some R&R at your favorite B&B, you can create your own idea of a fun day.
