Upper Chesapeake Bay & Susquehanna Flats Fishing Report
October 13th, 2005
Smallmouths were the fish of the day today. The mouth of the Susquehanna River has produced some very fine quality smallmouth the last few trips out on the river. This is a good sign as the river has been somewhat slow fishing the last couple of months.
The water clarity is less than a foot on the upper end of the Upper Bay & mouth of the Susquehanna River. But the smallmouth's are not letting the low visibility of the water & the heavy current & winds slow them down as much as the largemouth have. Once this week long stretch of rain & high winds stops it will only take a day or two for things to get back to normal, & the Largemouth bite will be Great!
More proof of successful Bass fishin' in Havre de Grace!

The bait fish are heavily schooled up at the mouths of the creeks, such as on Stump Point at the mouth of Furnace Bay, and select areas in the river. I am using a Bandit 200 series crankbait (Chartreuse with Purple back). This seems to be exactly what the smallmouth prefer. I am also using the New Carolina Lunker Sauce Pro-Gel, which is designed for crankbaits in the Menhaden Shad flavor. This stuff works great & has been a key factor in getting the smallmouth bites in these water conditions.
The largemouths seem to prefer a slower presentation, I am using my Tidal River Drop Shot, rigged with a 4 inch YUM Dinger (Green pumpkin with Chartreuse tipped tail) fish it tight to the wood. My Tidal River Drop Shot Video/DVD is scheduled to be available late December & will be available thru the Woods & Waters Magazine's Outdoor Marketplace, to get a copy contact Woods & Waters at (540) 894-5960 or www.woodsandwatersmagazine.com .
October & November are good months on the Upper Bay/Susquehanna Flats for you to try and get that Lunker! Largemouth or Smallmouth Bass that you have been wanting to Hook-Up with! I still have trip dates available on the Upper Bay/Susquehanna Flats; don't hesitate as Winter will be here before you know it and the Cabin Fever will set in!
Water Temperature; 64 degrees
Water Clarity; Less than a foot!
